The Mid-American Conference announced its annual awards back on Nov. 15, but today, a major addition was announced.

It appears that due to a data entry error, Miami (Ohio) senior outside hitter Olivia Rusek was mistakenly not included as Co-Player of the Year.

In an announcement posted on the Miami (Ohio) website, it states that:

“The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday that it had made a data entry error when calculating the 2017 MAC volleyball awards last month. After further review it was realized that senior outside hitter Olivia Rusek actually tied for MAC Player of the Year. She will now share that honor with Bowling Green libero Kallie Seimet.”

The MAC website release has simply been updated to read:

“For only the second time in conference history, MAC Player of the Year honors are split. Bowling Green’s Kallie Seimet and Miami’s Olivia Rusek were selected as the league’s top performers for the 2017 season. Seimet and Rusek each led their teams to a share of both the MAC East Division title and MAC Regular Season crown.”

Rusek was named a first team All-MAC selection initially after posting 3.14 kills and 2.80 digs per set, while registering double-doubles in 10 of 16 league matches.

All told in 2017, Rusek managed 2.71 kills per set on a .212 hitting effort with 20 aces and 2.24 digs per set, while leading Miami (Ohio) to a 23-9 record, MAC regular season and tournament crown and NCAA first round berth.

Rusek is the fifth Redhawk ever to be named MAC Player of the Year.
