Ontario Club Coach Charged With 30 Counts of Sexual Assault

39-year old Thomas Grieve has been arrested and faces 30 charges of sexually assaulting children under the age of 16. Grieve is a former volleyball coach with the Durham Rebels Volleyball Club and elementary school teacher at Robert Munsch Public School in Whitby, Ontario, Canada.

Grieve was coaching at the Durham Rebels Volleyball Club at the time of his arrest, and the club released a statement on March 19th saying that Grieve (though not referred to by name) has ‘been relieved by any and all duties with’ the club and “placed under suspension by the Ontario Volleyball Club, effective immediately.” The statement was released a month prior to the charges

The full statement:

“DRVC is aware that an adult member of our club has been charged by the Durham Regional Police Service. The individual in question has been relieved of any and all duties with our club and placed under suspension by the Ontario Volleyball Association, effective immediately. Anyone with information to provide is asked to contact DRPS investigators at 1-888-579-1520, ex. 5323. DRVC will provide no further comment on the accused, or the investigation.”

Durham regional police say that many of the counts of sexual misconduct with children happened during school hours.

He was originally charged with 8 counts of sexual assault and 8 counts of interference, but after the charges were first publicized, more alleged victims came forward, bringing the charges to 30.
