Outside hitter Payton Caffrey announced via Instagram that she will be moving closer to home to continue her collegiate career, transferring from West Virginia to Florida State.

The sophomore, who hails from Chuluota, Florida, will be just four and a half hours from home in Tallahassee.

“Happy to announce that I have decided to continue my collegiate volleyball career at Florida State University,” Caffrey said on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this difficult process. GO NOLES!”

A first team All-Big 12 selection in both 2016 and 2017, will have two years of remaining eligibility with the Seminoles.

Caffrey paced WVU in kills (3.62 per set) and aces (57), while hitting at a .226 clip in 2017 en route to AVCA All-Midwest Region honors. The outside hitter, who also chipped in 2.49 digs per set, also managed all-tournament team honors at the WVU Invitational and Diet Coke Classic and garnered Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades, Nov. 27 after leading the Mountaineers to a win over No. 14 Kansas.

In 2016, Caffrey was tabbed as the AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year after notching 4.44 kills and 2.24 digs per set and a team-best 30 aces.

West Virginia went 21-13 in 2017 and advanced to the NIVC Semifinals, while Florida State posted an 18-11 mark and advanced to the NCAA Tournament first round.

Caffrey is the second player to transfer to Florida State this offseason, following Kelsey Wicinski, who made the jump from Maryland.
