OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Nugent – Penn State – 6-4 – OH – Senior – Fair Lawn, N.J.
Senior Chris Nugent has been selected as the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 3.21 kills/set and hitting .430 in a 3-0 week for Penn State which included a 3-2 victory over #1 Ohio State. Nugent began the week with 19 kills while hitting .515 against the top-ranked Buckeyes. Chris then added 14 kills and hit .346 in a 3-2 victory over Princeton in EIVA action, and concluded the week with 12 kills in a 3-1 win over NJIT as he hit .407 in the conference match. Additionally, he added four service aces and an assist while on defensive end Nugent added 23 digs and eight total blocks. On the season, Chris is 4th in the EIVA in hitting percentage (.322), 5th in kills (257) and kills/set (3.34). This is Nugent’s second EIVA Offensive Player of the Week selection in 2017.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Johnny Gomez – George Mason – 6-1 – Libero – Senior – Indialantic, Fla.
Senior Johnny Gomez has been selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 3.89 digs/set in a 2-0 week for George Mason. Gomez began the weekend with 16 digs in a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart then followed with a seasonhigh 19 digs the following match in a 3-2 win for the Patriots over the Pioneers. The defending EIVA Champions have climbed their way back into post-season contention as they are currently on the outside looking in. Johnny has now jumped up to 5th in the EIVA in digs/set this season (2.16). This is Gomez’s second EIVA Defensive Player of the Week selection in 2017.
