Pepperdine, LBSU, and BYU Prevail: February 19 Recap

#14 PEPPERDINE DEF. #16 USC 3-2, (25-19, 24-26 25-16, 22-25, 15-10)

The Pepperdine men’s volleyball posted 57 kills as a team in a five set victory on Saturday as they moved past USC. David Wieczorek led the Waves with 18 kills and five errors, hitting .371. Colby Harriman and Alex Harthaller both tabbed double-figure kill performances with 16 and 10 kills, respectively. Libero, Noah Dyer, scooped up 10 digs on the match.

#1 LONG BEACH STATE DEF. #2 UCLA 3-1, (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21)

The Long Beach State men’s volleyball team remains undefeated after defeating the #2 UCLA Bruins on Saturday in Walter Pyramid in a battle for first place. The 49ers were able to extend their winning streak to 13, while cutting off the winning streak of the Bruins at seven. TJ DeFalco led the offense and earned a double-double with 17 kills (.419) and 12 digs. Kyle Ensing recorded 16 kills on the match, hitting .324 and adding two block assists. Setter, Josh Tuaniga, spread the offense over 39 assists to go along with two aces.

#6 BYU DEF. #18 CONCORDIA IRVINE 3-0, (25-21, 25-22, 25-15)

BYU men’s volleyball recorded yet another sweep on Saturday, defeating Concordia Irvine at CU Arena. The Cougars recorded 37 kills, hitting .247 on the match, along with 36 digs and 16 blocks. Gabi Garcia Fernandez carried the offense with 11 kills and four errors for a .368 hitting percentage. Price Jarman and Miki Jauhiainen both had errorless offensive performances with 7 kills on a .636 clip and 6 kills, hitting .857, respectively.
