PlusLiga’s Aluron Virtu Zawiercie will go into its new season with two new setters. The team signed Slovakian Michał Masny, twice named as the best setter of the European League, to a 2-year contract. The 38-year-old has played in many of Europe’s leagues before really becoming a PlusLiga household name with teams such as Zaksa, Gdansk, Lubin, besides having already worked with coach Mark Lebedew on Jastrzębski Węgiel. Here is what the coach had to say of him:

“He is one of the best playmakers in the entire PlusLiga. He is a great leader and player. Thanks to his experience, he helps younger players to grow. It’s safe to say that he will be my assistant on the dance floor.”

Helping out Michal will be another foreign import: Australian native Arash Dosanjh, who also signed a two-year contract. The soon to be 22-year-old youngster is almost 6’8″ tall, and has already had stints in Finland and Switzerland. He is currently playing with Lebedew on the Australian national team in this year’s VNL. Here is what the coach had to say of him:

He proved in the Australian team that he can compete with other setters. Arash is a young, ambitious setter. Despite his young age, he has great experience as a starter. However, he wants to develop, so he decided to change leagues. PlusLiga will be a great learning experience for him, as well as an opportunity to raise all his skills.

Zawiercie finished last year’s PlusLiga regular season, led by Team USA Captain David Smith, in 10th place with a 12-18 record. If it’s up to setter-coach connection to improve that finish in the new season, then the team is very well served.
