Polish National Teamer Bartosz Kurek Signs with Indonesian Club

Polish opposite Bartosz Kurek has signed a contract with Indonesian side Jakarta Electric PLN with a splashy move expected to shake up the league table.

The 28-year old Kurek stands 2.07m tall (6’9″), hits at 375cm (148 inches), and blocks at 340cm (130 inches), and spent two years on the Polish National Team from 2009-2015, including gold medals at the 2009 European Championships and at the 2012 World League. He was named the MVP of the 2012 FIVB World League, and in both 2012 and 2013 was nominated for Polish Sportspersonality of the Year. In 2015, he was on the Polish team that won bronze a tht eWorld Cup.

Kurek, who started his professional career playing alongside his father Adam, has spent most of his professional career playing in Poland, but this will be his 4th team outside of his domestic borders.

After finishing last season with the JT Thunders of Hiroshima, Japan, Kurek made a brief stop back home with Belchatow of the Polish league (his second stint with the team) before now departing for Indonesia.In the 2012-2013 Polish League season, he was the 2nd-leading scorer with 17.8 points-per-game.

Jakarta Electric were the Indonesian champions as recently as 2015.
