Porec To Host Next FIVB World Tour Five-Star Event

2017 FIVB World Tour – Porec Major

The FIVB World Tour has moved on to their second five-star event of the season, in Porec, Croatia. The event is set to start with three country quota matches on June 26, followed by the qualification tournament on June 27. The remainder of the tournament will be the main draw, with the finals occurring on July 2.

The players at the tournament will play for a piece of the $600,000 purse prize. The winners of both genders will take home a total of $40,000 to split as a pair.

Most of the top beach pairs in the world are competing at the event including Bruno Schmidt and Alison Cerutti after taking a week off from international events. On the American side for the men, Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena will compete to grab another gold medal on the tour this season, while Theo Brunner and Casey Patterson will contend to take a podium spot. Brazilian’s Alvaro Filho and Saymon Santos will compete again to take their second five-star event of the season after they won Fort Lauderdale.

In big new for the tournament, Croatian soccer star, Ivan Perisic will play on the men’s side of the competition. At the event, Perisic will partner with Niksa Dell’Orco.

“I have been given permission to play in a beach volleyball tournament of the highest importance. My only wish is to stay in the tournament for as long as possible. I hope my participation in the Porec Major will help promote this unique tournament and promote this beautiful sport,” said Perisic in a statement.

All matches that Perisic will play will be held on Center Court.

On the women’s side of the tournament, Brazilian’s Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes will look to take gold once again at a five-star event, after winning in Fort Lauderdale. For the American’s Kerri Walsh Jennings and new partner, Nicole Branagh will look come out strong as a new pair. April Ross, Walsh Jennings former partner, will not be competing at the event due to an injury sustained at the New York City AVP Tour event a few weeks back.
