The last time that a Princeton men’s volleyball player earned an AVCA National Player of the Week was Jason Morrow back in 1998. This week, Parker Dixon garnished the award, one that hadn’t been claimed since he was just five months old.
Dixon is the second player in Princeton’s program history to be awarded the prestigious weekly award. Along with the national player of the week award, Dixon earned the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week award this week.
Leading up to Dixon winning the award, Princeton had a great week, going 2-0, also taking down reigning league champions #15 George Mason and NJIT.
Against NJIT, Dixon posted his career-best 22 kills on a .515 hitting percentage in the victory. He followed up this performance with 13 kills against George Mason hitting for .346. Against the Patriots, the Tigers had to fight off one match ball, where senior setter Jonah May dished out the game winning ball to Dixon who hammered down the final point.
“I am thrilled for Parker to earn such a prestigious honor, and I thank the AVCA for recognizing him,” said head coach Sam Shweisky. “Parker was called upon in several big moments last week, and he answered time and again.”
Shweisky sees an unlimited amount of potential out of Dixon, as he has only scratched the surface of the player he can become being a freshman.
