Due to financial difficulties, the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour stop in Rome, Italy that was set to take place in June has been cancelled.

The 2017 beach volleyball calendar includes a total of 24 events spread out across 18 countries. The year kicked off with a five-star event in Fort Lauderdale, USA followed by a men’s only event at the Kish Island, Iran in February. More recently, Australia saw their first two events since the 2000 Sydney Olympics – Shepparton and Sydney’s Manly Beach in the month of March.

There will be three Swatch Major Series events: Fort Lauderdale (USA), Porec (Croatia) and Gstaad (Switzerland). The calendar also features three four-star events in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Lucerne (Switzerland) and Olsztyn (Poland).

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria are set to take place from July 28-August 6 with the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg, Germany from August 22-27.

In the coming years, the Italian Volleyball Federation is committed to staging top-flight beach volleyball events in 2019 and 2020. Italy and Bulgaria are each set to host the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2018.
