Ron Kordes of Assumption High School (Ky.) Wins 1000th Match

Ron Kordes, the head coach of the Assumption High School girls’ volleyball team in Kentucky, has won his 1000th match as the program’s head coach.

The win came over St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis in the semi-finals of the Ultra Ankle Louisville Invitational on Sunday, September 11th.

The run for the 68-year old includes 19 state championships since taking over the program in 1988, with 8 in a row from 1995-2002. Among his star talents from that period are Alexa Filley, the 2013-2014 Gatorade National Player of the Year.

Assumption is currently ranked as the 7th-best team in the country in the latest USA Today Super 25 High School rankings. That’s a fall of 2 spots after losing to Louisville rivals Sacred Heart in the tournament championship.

Kordes is the owner of the KIVA volleyball club and the father of University of Louisville head coach Anne Kordes.
