Saint Louis’ Leverenz & VCU’s Giommarini Earn A-10 Players Of The Week

Saint Louis senior Lauren Leverenz and VCU sophomore Vicky Giommarini were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, while Dayton senior Amber Erhahon was named Defensive Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Bridget Doherty was also selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. All awards were for matches played Oct. 2-8.

Leverenz helped lead the Billikens to road wins over Fordham and Rhode Island. The middle blocker from Crystal Lake, Ill., led the team with a .533 hitting percentage and averaged 4.00 kills per set. Additionally, she averaged 1.0 blocks per set and recorded 45.0 points over the two matches.

Giommarino averaged 4.10 kills and 2.30 digs per set over three wins last week for VCU. The outside hitter from Rome, Italy, recorded a double-double (19 kills, 11 digs) against Maryland Eastern-Shore last week. She also had an attack percentage of .357 and averaged 0.50 blocks per set.

Erhahon averaged 1.86 blocks per set and 2.29 kills per set last week in wins over Fordham and Rhode Island. The middle blocker from Albany, Calif., tallied 10 kills, eight blocks in a 3-1 win against Fordham. Against Rhode Island, she chipped in six kills and five blocks in a 3-0 win.

Doherty earned her first career start at setter against Fordham, recording a career-high 45 assists. The Overland Park, Kan., native, tallied 36 assists to go with a career-high eight digs and three blocks in a win over Rhode Island.
