2017 CEV European Championships – Women

Serbia has named their preliminary roster for the 2017 CEV European Championships, with Brankica Mihajlovic and Tijana Boskovic headlining the crew.

At this year’s World Grand Prix, Mihajlovic led the scoring with 153 points on 136 kills, 11 blocks and six aces. Her strong play kept Serbia at a 7-2 overall record to take first in the preliminary round, sending them off to the Final Six. Mihajlovic ranked sixth overall in hitting efficiency with a 44.16% rating. In the finals, she posted just 52 points overall, with Boskovic stepping up to the plate for the first time in the competition by putting down 100 points in the finals series.

Also stepping up for Serbia on the defensive end was Tijana Malesevic, who at the Grand Prix had 116 excellent passes with a 64.07% receiving efficiency to lead the Serbian crew. The next closest scorer to Mihajlovic in the preliminary round was Stefana Veiljkovic, the team’s middle blocker who put down 68 points.

The effort by the Serbians at the World Grand Prix was enough to put them in third place ahead of the hosts China.

In the last edition of the event in 2015, Serbia took first place ahead of Turkey with Boskovic posting 89 points in the competition.

The Serbians will participate in Pool D, with their first match coming against the Czech Republic on September 22, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium before the next phase of the tournament is decided.
