The Cincinnati Bearcats are bringing on Jasmine Jones, a 2016 Second-Team All-Southern Conference (SoCon) performer and transfer from UNC Greensboro, for the 2017 season. Jones will be a redshirt junior in the upcoming fall season and have two years left of eligibility.
A 6’0″ middle blocker from Stafford, Virginia, Jones attended Brooke Point High School and set the program single-season record for blocks and kills en route to conference player of the year and All-State Second Team in 2013. She earned a spot with UNC Greensboro, where she redshirted in 2014. In her first year of play, Jones was named to the Southern Conference (SoCon) All-Freshman Team behind 237 kills and 113 blocks. Her numbers only rose as a sophomore when she was listed on the All-SoCon awards behind a team-high .314 hitting percentage to pair with 285 kills and 121 blocks.
“Jasmine will add experience in the middle blocker position to our team,” Cincinnati head coach Molly Alvey said in the team’s release of the signing. “She is a mature competitor and fierce in the weight room. Jasmine is a vocal leader on the court and loves nothing more than winning. Her strength, quickness and athleticism are her biggest assets on the court.”
Jones will be just one of three middle blockers on the roster, as she joins Maya Muldrow (63 sets played in 2016) and Dasha Cabarkapa (redshirted her first season in 2016).
Cincinnati put together a 21-win season last year before falling to Florida State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was their second consecutive 20-win season.
