WASHINGTON – Jackie Granger has been hired as an assistant coach with the Georgetown University volleyball team, as announced by head coach Toby Rens on Friday. Granger begins her duties on the Hilltop on Monday, April 23.

“The Hoya Volleyball program just became much better with the addition of Jackie Granger,” Rens said. “Jackie is one of the most competitive BIG EAST volleyball players I’ve coached against. We are just thrilled to have her on the sidelines because she has so much to give.  Jackie was very well trained and has a keen eye for the game which will benefit our players greatly.”

“I’d like to thank Toby for the opportunity to continue my coaching career here at Georgetown,” Granger said. “I’ve known Toby for a while now, albeit from the opposite side of the court, and have always admired his coaching style and work ethic. I think our personalities and coaching styles complement each other extremely well. It’s surreal to come back and coach in the BIG EAST and I look forward to helping bring Georgetown volleyball back to the top of the BIG EAST standings.”

Granger had a stellar playing career and was one of the most prolific offensive threats in NCAA history. A three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-American, she amassed 2,386 career kills which still ranks No. 14 all-time in Division I history. Granger posted three seasons with at least 600 kills and ranked top-25 nationally in kills per game in 2003, 2004 and 2007.

No stranger to the BIG EAST, Granger (née Ahlers) was a standout at league rival St. John’s from 2002-04. In 2003 she was the first Red Storm player to earn AVCA All-American honors and repeated the feat in 2004. Granger was also named All-BIG EAST First Team in both 2003 and 2004, as well as collecting honorable mention honors as a freshman in 2002. She finished her career at St. John’s with the most kills in school history with 1,766 in just three seasons, a mark since broken in 2015.

Earning her degree from St. John’s in 2006, Granger played her final year of eligibility at Stony Brook during the 2007 season. With the Seawolves, she was named the America East Conference Player of the Year and garnered AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors for the third time.

“As one of the best volleyball players to come out of the Northeast she knows our region and the BIG EAST extremely well,” continued Rens. “We are looking forward to the contributions she will make as a coach, recruiter and mentor to the student-athletes here at Georgetown,”

Granger comes to the Nation’s Capital following a stint as an assistant at NJIT in Newark, New Jersey. Prior to her time with the Highlanders, she was the head coach at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York from 2014-17 and an assistant at Dominican College in 2014.
