After earning a silver medal at the Babolsar One-Star last week, Kazakhstan’s Alexey Sidorenko and Alexandr Dyachenko earned their country’s first ever FIVB Beach World Tour gold medal at the Caspian Sea Series Bandar Anzli One Star on Friday.
Italy’s Carolina Ferraris/Francesca Michieletto made their way from the qualifiers to the top of the podium at the Samsun One Star, while eighth-seeded Czech duo Jindrich Weiss/Donovan Dzavoronok won gold in their opening tournament as a pair.
Serbia’s Stefan Basta/Lazar Kolaric, which started the tournament in the qualifying rounds, won their first FIVB World Tour gold medal at the Aydin One-Star, while Sweden’s Kristina Thurin/Susanna Thurin made history with a bronze on the women’s side, for their country’s first ever FIVB World Tour medal.
Saturday set the semifinal stage for the Aydin One-Star after a long day of action including the end of women’s pool play, the round of 12 and the quarterfinals, while the men’s podium matches were set by the end of the day.
Nouh Al-Jalbubi/Mazin Alhashmi (Oman) join pool winners Tiziano Andreatta/Andrea Abbiati (Italy), Rahman Raoufi/Haman Salemiinjehboroun (Iran), and Philipp Arne Bergmann/Yannick Harms (Germany) in Saturday’s Oman One-Star semifinals.
The four pool winners – Rahman Raoufi/Haman Salemiinjehboroun (Iran), Philipp Arne Bergmann/Yannick Harms (Germany) and qualifiers Aghamohammad Salagh/Abolhamed Mirzaali (Iran) and Tiziano Andreatta/Andrea Abbiati (Italy) – earn automatic berths to the quarterfinals, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Teams from Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Iran advanced through two qualifying rounds to earn spots in main draw pool play at the Oman One-Star.
The FIVB World Tour has been on break for about a month but the participants for the MICA Mall Kish Island Open from February 19-24 have been announced.
