In an interview with VolleyMob’s Iranian correspondent, Iranian coach Igor Kolakovic says that his team manager and several players did not receive visas to enter the U.S. for this weekend’s leg of the Volleyball Nations League.
The Iranian men’s national team is one of the most exciting teams in volleyball.
Brazil wins its fifth WGCC gold. Team USA greatly underachieves, loses to a depleted Italian team, and is knocked out of the podium.
Brazil’s 3-2 win against the USA all but gives the South Americans the tournament title, even though three other teams have mathematical chances at it.
Team USA hands the World League’s champions a 3-0 loss. They are now in first place of the round robin tournament with two games still left to go. Meanwhile, Brazil and Italy won their games, and trail the American team closely in the standings.
The game is a must-win for Team USA’s title hopes. Meanwhile, Brazil will battle leaders Iran, while Italy and Japan close out the day in Osaka.
Iran adds another chapter to its up and coming volleyball resume, coming from behind 2-0 to hand Team USA its first defeat of the tournament.
Matthew Anderson ushered USA’s opening day straight-set (25-21, 25-18, 25-13) win over hosts Japan. Brazil and Iran also came out victorious.
