Its back to St. John Arena for the Ohio State women’s volleyball team this weekend. The Buckeyes will get the ball rolling against No. 13 Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting Michigan State live on ESPN2 Sunday at 1 p.m.
Ohio State earned the upset in 4 sets over 4th-ranked Penn State, while 8th-ranked Illinois fended off a feisty Indiana volleyball program in 5 sets to remain undefeated on the season. 5th-ranked Nebraska and 19th-ranked Michigan downed Michigan State and Iowa, 3-1, respectively to round out Big Ten opening week.
The Buckeyes have defeated the Nittany Lions twice now in the last 22 meetings dating back to the 2007 season. Both wins were earned in Columbus, Ohio.
Big Ten opening night was one of lopsided victories, as 8th-ranked Minnesota shocked 7th-ranked Penn State in straight sets and 3rd-ranked Wisconsin showed out with a sweep of Ohio State.
The Big Ten could make a case for being the best league in the nation with a strong 83 percent winning percentage (127-26), seven teams among the VolleyMob Top 25 and three undefeated teams, but the conference is still largely untested.
Today is a big day for a number of prospective collegiate volleyball athletes, as it is the first day players can sign their early period National Letters of Intent for their programs in the NCAA.
