TCU Beach Geared Up For Surf N Turf Invitational

The TCU beach volleyball will make its first of two trips of the year to the state of Florida this week when it opens the Surf N Turf Invitational Friday in South Beach, hosted by Florida International University.

For the second consecutive match, the Horned Frogs will meet No. 8 South Carolina, who beat TCU 3-2 on the final day of the Gamecock Challenge last week. The match with the Gamecocks is set to begin at 7 a.m. (CT) Friday. TCU will then meet No. 7 Florida State at 2 p.m. (CT) and No. 9 Georgia State at 6 p.m. (CT).

The Horned Frogs will battle No. 18 Florida Atlantic at 9 a.m. (CT) Saturday before closing out the event with Tulane at 2 p.m. (CT).

LAST TIME OUT

The Horned Frogs won two of their last three matches at the Gamecock Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.

Overall, the Frogs went 2-2 in the two-day event with wins over UAB and UNC-Wilmington, while suffering narrow 3-2 setbacks to Florida Gulf Coast and No. 8 South Carolina.

The team of Brooke Sassin and Jordan Westendorff, who are 7-5 this year, went 4-0 on the weekend, and overall they have won four of their last five matches.

Westendorff is tied with Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene with a team-high eight victories.

Haven Hill and Cassie House, who have seven victories, went 3-1 on the weekend, while Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe went 2-2 as did Bergeson and Greene.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

NO. 8 SOUTH CAROLINA: The Gamecocks went 2-2 in the Gamecock Challenge with wins over Florida Gulf Coast and TCU … The Gamecocks lead the overall series 3-2 with their last match coming 3-25-18 (USC, 3-2).

NO. 7 FLORIDA STATE (12-5): The Seminoles have won three straight matches since dropping five in a row to No. 1 Pepperdine (2), No. 2 USC, No. 4 UCLA and No. 8 Long Beach … FSU leads the all-time series 3-0 over the Horned Frogs with their last meeting coming April 7, 2017 (FSU, 5-0).

NO. 9 GEORGIA STATE: The Panthers enter the weekend on a five-match winning streak (Jacksonville State 2, North Florida, ULM and Mercer), and they have won 11 of their last 13 … The Horned Frogs beat the No. 10 Panthers 3-2 on April 7, 2017, in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

NO. 18 FLORIDA ATLANTIC (13-9): FAU has won three straight matches (College of Charleston, Spring Hill, Tulane) and six of its last seven … The Horned Frogs lead the all-time series after posting a 3-2 win over the No. 14 Eagles on April 8, 2017.

TULANE (10-7): The Wave enters the weekend on a three-match losing streak after dropping matches to No. 17 Stetson, No. 20 Florida Atlantic and No. 10 LSU. In all, they have lost four of their last five matches … Tulane leads 3-0 in the all-time series with the Horned Frogs with their last meeting coming March 3 at the Fight in the Fort (Tulane, 3-2).
