The 33rd Monteux Volley Masters has finalized the eight-team competition that will take place from September 4-9 in Switzerland. The tournament comes just weeks before the start of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships that will take place in Japan, giving teams the opportunity for practice matches prior to the championships.
The teams set to compete are Brazil, China, Russia, Italy, Turkey, Cameroon, Poland and Switzerland.
Brazil, China, Italy and Russia are all within the top-seven of the FIVB World Rankings and are the overwhelming favorites at the competition. This is not to leave out teams like Italy and Turkey who have been known to make comebacks along with strong, youthful squads. The 2018 edition of the event will feature a team from Africa, Cameroon, for the first time in the history of the event.
“The Montreux Volley Masters is one of volleyball’s most long-standing traditions and I thank the organizers for what they have done for the sport in the past and what they continue to do today,” said FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca.
Last year, Brazil won the competition after taking down Germany while China finished in third place. Half of the team’s from the 2017 edition will compete again in 2018 – Brazil, China, Poland and hosts Switzerland.
