German side TSV Herrsching, one of the country’s oldest professional clubs having been founded in 1947, has landed a big addition for the 2018-2019 season: 21-year old Johannes Tille, who will join his more-known brother Ferdinand Tille in the side. Johannes signed a two-year contract.

While the 6’1″, 29-year old Ferdinand is a libero, Johannes, at 6’0″ even, is a setter.

“Of course, Johannes Tille does not have the experience of a Michal Sladecek at the age of 37, but he has the talent and is one of the best in Germany in what he does – so he will develop with us and have the confidence of everyone here at the team,” said coach Max Hauser.

The referenced Sladacek, a Slovakian, is one of two departures from the club this year in what has been a relatively-quiet off-season so far. The team lost both setters, including Martin Kruger who left for league rival VfB Friedrichsafen.

Herrsching still has not announced who their backup setter will be for the year, but appears to be ready to hand the offense to the younger Tille. The team has also signed 2.00m (6’7″) middle blocker Lukas Bauer from United Volleys Rhein-Main. Last season, Bauer was the 25th-ranked middle blocker in the league in scoring with 66 points in just 40 sets played (1.7 points/set).

As a team Herrsching finished 6th out of 11 teams in the table last season with a 10-10 win-loss record (33 points). The team led the league in kills, but were only 8th in efficiency – they had 1,038 kills, 203 errors, and 187 shots blocked for a 29.6% efficiency percentage.
