2017 European Men’s Indoor Championships – 3rd Round Qualifying

The final round of qualification for the 2017 European Championships saw 6 teams halved into 3, with a trio of home-and-away pairings using aggregate sets to determine who would advance to next year’s tournament in Poland.
Scoring of the home-and-away pairings
- Match won 3–0 or 3–1: 3 match points for the winner, 0 match points for the loser
- Match won 3–2: 2 match points for the winner, 1 match point for the loser
Pairing 1 – Turkey def. Portugal 5-1
After taking a 3-0 lead at home in the first leg of the match, behind 16 kills from Metin Toy to go with 3 aces and a block, Turkey entered last weekend needing to just take a single set against the Portuguese to secure their advancement forward.
The Turks got that right off-the-bat, eventually pulling away in a back-and-forth first to win 25-21.
From there, the Turks got a few new faces into the match and gave two sets back to Portugal before coming back and winning the 4th-and-5th set to punctuate their advancement
Pairing 2 – Spain def. Greece 4-2
This second pairing went much the way of the first, with Spain putting a 3-0 sweep on the Greeks at home and then doing just enough in a 3-2 ;pss on the second leg in Greece to secure their trip to the finals. In both matches, Greece was led by 19 kills from Andres Villena.
This secures qualification for the 2007 European Champions who were unfortunate victims of a tough second-qualifying-round draw against Germany.
Pairing 3 – Estonia def. Latvia 5-1
In a battle of the Baltics, Northern European neighbors Estonia and Latvia was the most hotly-conested of the pairings. Estonia beat Latvia 3-2 on the away leg, leaving a dicey scenario on the return trip home. Ultimately, though, the result was the same – just in the opposite order – as the other two pairings, where Estonia had a 3-0 sweep at home to seal up a 5-1 victory.

Third round
The 2nd placed teams of the second round will play one home and one away match to determine the 3 winners who will then subsequently be qualified through to the 2017 Championship. The third round matches will be held on 1–9 October 2016.
