Two Of Three USA Squads Advance To Men’s Round Of 16 At Xiamen

2017 FIVB WORLD BEACH TOUR – XIAMEN

The Round of 32 is complete for the men, with 16 teams advancing to the round of 16 that will be played later this afternoon.

Among those moving forward in the tournament are Italians Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo, who took down the Swiss pair of Mirco Gerson and Michiel Zandbergen 2-0, (21-17, 21-16).  Nicolai/Lupo are currently ranked 12th in the FIVB World Beach Rankings. The duo moves ahead in the tournament to take on another Swiss pair of Nico Beeler and Marco Krattiger who also dominated their match in two sets.

Two of the three USA squads in the tournament advance onward, with Ryan Doherty and James Avery Drost taking down China’s Likejiang Ha and Jian Bao in two and Sean Rosenthal and Trevor Crabb also making easy work of their Belgium opponents Dries Koekelkoren and Tom van Walle. Stafford Slick and William Allen were bested by the Dutch pair of Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen in a two set sweep.

The Langkawi winners from Cuba, Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez continue to roll through their competition with a two set sweep over the Austrian duo of Alexander Huber and Lorenz Petutschnig 2-0, (21-14, 21-15).

The men’s round of 16 will begin late tonight at 10:30PM CST.
