U.S. National Team member Megan Courtney has injured her ACL for the 2nd time and won’t travel to Turkey to begin her first season with Canakkale next week. Courtney announced the injury on her Instagram account:

“My heart is hurt but never broken. I’ve done it once. I can do it again. Yesterday I suffered my second ACL injury of my career only two days into my journey in Turkey. I am heading home tomorrow to start the recovery process. Even though i was just getting to know all my teammates and great coaching staff at @canakkalebelediyespor I want to thank them all for the amazing accommodations and support they have given me in the last 24 hrs. Make no mistake that I will have this face (see picture above) throughout the entire process. Determined. Focused. Ready to take on any and every challenge that comes my way! Not the time I wanted to say this but see you soon ??”

Courtney is a unique player in the world of volleyball. She’s traditionally played as an outside hitter at the college, international, and professional levels, but at the 2017 USA Volleyball Cup and the 2017 FIVB Grand Champions Cup, she was shifted to libero.

She was still expected to play outside hitter for Cannakale next season, but that has been derailed by the injury – she’ll instead stay home and rehab.

Courtney, a Penn State alum, will turn 24 at the end of October. She spent last season with Impel of the Polish league. She was ranked as the 8th-best outside hitter in the then-OrlenLiga last season. She made her debut for the USA National Team at the 2016 Pan American Cup, winning a bronze medal, and played at this year’s Pan American Cup and World Grand Prix as well (also at outside hitter).

We have asked Courtney for any details on the extent of the injury or whether it was the same ACL that she hurt the first time, but as of posting have not heard back as of posting.
