The UCLA Bruins received their NCAA National Championship Rings in a ceremony during a UCLA football game earlier this month. The Bruins became the first team besides their cross-town rivals USC to win an NCAA championship in beach volleyball.
After entering the tournament as the top seed, the Bruins were knocked out of the winner’s bracket in the 2nd round via a 3-1 loss to Florida State. They then knocked off LSU 3-0, USC 3-1, and Hawaii 3-2 to earn the right to play the hot-handed Seminoles again in the championship match, where the result was a very different story. This time, UCLA won 3-1 to take their national championship. That was their 116th NCAA National Championship in school history, which is 2nd only to Stanford’s 117 titles.
The Bruins won 35 of its final 36 matches, with that 2nd-round loss to Florida State being their only one in that run.
The UCLA football team lost the game 31-24 to Washington, but that didn’t put a damper on the day for the Beach Bruins. Below, see the teams’ Instagram posts celebrating the day.
