The AVCA has announced that the UCLA beach volleyball head coach, Stein Metzger has been selected as the 2017 AVCA Beach National Coach of the Year. This is the fifth year that the honor has been awarded to a collegiate beach volleyball coach, with the inaugural 2013 season that went to Pepperdine’s head coach Nina Matthies.

Metzger is in his fifth season with the Bruins, where he led the team to their best record in program history with an overall 30-6 record with a 14-6 overall record when facing ranked opponents. The Bruins did not drop a match at home this season. At the Pac-12 Championships, the Bruins were able to snap USC’s 62-dual winning streak. From March 11 to April 22, the Bruins went on a 24 dual winning streak – the streak was snapped by cross-town rivals USC.

At the Pac-12 and the NCAA Championships, the Bruins were awarded the #2 seed.

In addition to the AVCA National Beach Coach of the Year, Metzger was named the Pac-12 Beach Coach of the Year. Metzger coached Nicole and Megan McNamara to an All-Pac-12 First Team and AVCA All-American honors, while Kamila Tan and Madi Yeomans earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors.
