It takes two to tango or ride a tandem bike or even use a see-saw. In this case for UMKC, it takes two to transfer as the team is bringing on a pair of former junior college athletes to join its 2017 roster in Brooke Jacobs and Tyrecia Lukes. Both players will be immediately eligible juniors who have two years left of play.

A 6’0″ outside hitter originally from Peoria, Illinois, Brooke Jacobs comes in after two seasons at Illinois Central College. In both of her seasons at the junior college level, Jacobs was selected as a first-team All-Region pick and was a NJCAA Divsion II Volleyball All-American in her final season.

“We are excited to have a player with the all-around skill set that Brooke has,” UMKC head coach Christi Posey said in the team’s release of the additions. “Her confidence and leadership will be present immediately, despite her newness to our team. A versatile attacker, Brooke will provide us with an opportunity to be creative offensively.”

Joining Jacobs is Tyrecia Lukes, a 6’1″ middle blocker from Homestead, Florida. She previously attended Highland Community College in Kansas for three seasons – one redshirting, as she is a redshirt junior in 2017. Over the course of this past season, she led the team in kills (430) and blocks (141) en route to first-team all-conference honors.

“To have a player with Ty’s length and athletic ability added to our middle group, our excitement rises for quality depth in that position,” Posey added in the regards to the transfers. “Her personality and sincerity jump out quickly, so we know she will be a tremendous teammate.”

At Jacobs’ outside hitter position, there are four others to compete for playing time. At the middle blocker spot, Lukes makes up one of four competing for court action. Both will look to make an immediate impact on a UMKC team that finished 15-13 in 2016 and 8-6 in the WAC.
