UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek has released the beach volleyball program’s schedule for the upcoming season, which begins on Mar. 3-4 in St. Augustine, Fla.
“I’m excited to embark on our third beach volleyball season and feel the foundation has been set and the program is now a little more battle tested,” said Bambenek. “We will face a variety of competition this spring with our opponents spanning across the nation from Florida to Texas and even Hawaii. Our team will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work on three home dates and all the while focusing on our progress to compete at a high level in our second year at the CCSA championship.”
The Seahawks, who enter their third season as a collegiate program, open the season at the UNF Beach Invitational, hosted by North Florida, in St. Augustine, Fla. UNCW is slated to play Georgia State, LSU, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and the host Ospreys.
UNCW, which also begins its spring break that week, visits Atlanta where it will face off with Austin Peay and Jacksonville State in a pair of dual matches.
The Seahawks will compete in the following tournaments, Stetson Hickory Point Lake Bash (Mar. 16-17, Tavares, Fla.), Gamecock Grand Slam (Mar. 24-25, Columbia, S.C.) and the Florida State Tournament (Apr. 6-7, Tallahassee, Fla.).
UNCW hosts its own tournament on Mar. 30-31, entertaining Carson-Newman, College of Charleston, Missouri Baptist and North Florida at Dig and Dive.
UNCW finished the 2016 season with a record of 13-13 and will face a total eight programs that finished in the final top-15 of the 2017 season. Third-ranked Hawaii, fourth-ranked Florida State and LSU, ranked sixth, head up that group.
The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association championships return to Atlanta and open on Apr. 20.
The NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., will begin on May 4. ESPN will broadcast the tournament through the 2022 Championship.
