Evyn Mccoy has signed on with Schwarz-Weiss Erfurt for the 2017-18 season in the German Bundesliga.
Mccoy is a middle blocker from the United States, where she played with West Virginia University. In her career with West Virginia, Mccoy posted 482 kills and an impressive 385 blocks.
To start her professional career, Mccoy played with Lyngby Volley in Denmark followed by Spanish powerhouse Barcelona. With Barcelona, Mccoy helped the squad to a seventh place finish with a 10-12 record. This was, however, not enough to help the Barcelona team to the playoffs, where Ca’n Ventura Palma eventually took the title over Almeria.
In addition, Schwarz-Weiss brings in Japan’s An Saita as libero. This will be Saita’s first time playing professional volleyball outside of Japan. For the past five season, Saita has played with Hitachi Rivale where she helped the team to a third place finish in the 2016-17 season.
Last season, Schwarz-Weiss Erfurt’s season was less than ideal, finishing 11th in the regular season with a 3-19 record. This kept them well out of the playoffs of the league. The eventual winner of the league was SS Schweriner who posted a 19-3 record, defeating Stuttgart in the finals in a sweep. The two teams came in as the #1 and #2 ranked teams.
The addition of Mccoy is in hopes to build up the middle blocking position for Schwarz-Weiss and radically improve the squad this coming season.
