Our focus is on day 2 of the USAV Girls 18s Nationals in Anaheim, California. A few surprises hit us on day 1, which you can read about here. Our breakdown starts with the top division:
OPEN
- Pool 1
- After pool play was completed, Circle City was the only team to not drop a set. They won Pool 1 easily.
- Pool 2
- After starting nationals with 3-0 record, Legacy out of Michigan lost twice on Saturday to finish 3rd in the pool. San Gabriel Elite out of Los Angeles won the pool, but not without a fight; they went the maximum sets in 3 of their 5 matches. The surprise in this pool was A5 18-1 out of Atlanta, who finished 2nd in the pool after starting as the 5-seed and 29th out of 36 overall.
- Pool 3
- The Pool of Death stayed that way throughout Saturday, with T-Street out of Southern California winning the pool with a 4-1 record. Aspire, from Arizona, started slow on Friday and finished 2-3, which put them at 5th and out of contention for a national title after earning the #3 overall seed in the tournament.
- Pool 4
- KC Power, the #4 overall seed, needed to win both matches Saturday and get help from other teams in the pool to have a chance to stay in contention. Neither happened, as they lost two close 3-setters on day 2. Coast 18-1 out of San Diego won the pool with a 4-1 record.
- Pool 5
- Texas Tornadoes were the only other team in the tournament who finished unscathed in match play, although they did drop a set to Idaho Crush. Top Select split their Saturday matches to steal 2nd place in Pool 5.
- Pool 6
- Texas Advantage needed a win over San Antonio Magic to win Pool 6 in their last pool play match, which proved epic. Their 3-set, come from behind victory earned the pool win.

- Sunshine swept Drive Nation, San Gabriel Elite beat Sunshine in 3, 15-12 in the third

- Minnesota Select swept MichioChicago, Minnesota Select upsets pool 3 winner T-Street in 3

- OT upset Milwaukee Sting in 3, Coast swept OT
- CHALLENGE E
- Mizuno Long Beach defeated A5 18-1 in 3, Texas Tornadoes easily handled Long Beach

- Absolute Black knocked off Club V in 3, 18-16 in the 3rd, Texas Advantage defeated Absolute Black in 3, 15-12 in the 3rd

- KC Power swept Vision, Top Select beat KC Power in the best match of the challenge round, 24-26, 25-23, 15-13
- CHALLENGE H
- Rage upset NORCO in 3, San Antonio Magic beat Rage in 3, 15-10 in the 3rd
