The Utah volleyball team will wrap-up the 2018 regular-season this week with four different matches played in a road trip throughout Arizona.
The Utes (2-8) will first head to Phoenix this Thursday, April 19, to face the No. 16-ranked Grand Canyon Lopes (11-14) in a road match at GCU’s Beach Volleyball Stadium. Utah will then make the quick trip down to Tucson to compete in Arizona’s Bear Down Bash, which will take place at Arizona Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Utes will open the tournament against the Benedictine-Mesa Redhawks (9-8) on Friday, April 20, and then later that evening will take on the No. 14-ranked Wildcats (16-10). Utah will close out both the regular-season and the tournament with a match against the New Mexico Lobos (8-12) on Saturday, April 21.
GCU is coming off a 2-2 record at the Tulane Tournament in New Orleans a few weekends back. Prior to its home match with Utah this week, the Lopes will head to Los Angeles to face both No. 6 Long Beach State and No. 4 USC.
Benedictine-Mesa went 1-2 last week and will be playing in its final matches of the season this week, while the Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 loss to Pepperdine, but will play Arizona State in a mid-week match-up before hosting the tournament. The Lobos are coming off a 2-2 weekend after having picked up wins against Abilene Christian and St. Edward’s (Texas) at the Javelina Battle on the Beach in Kingsville, Texas.
Utah is coming off a 2-3 performance at the Long Beach State Tournament this past weekend, having picked up wins against Long Beach City College and CSU Bakersfield. The two regular-season wins mark the most for a Utah beach squad, which had it inaugural season a year ago. The Utes were 1-10 in the regular-season in 2017.
