Utah State head volleyball coach Grayson DuBose has announced the addition of Izzie Hinton, a 6-foot-2 right side, joining the Aggies after a two-year career at Utah Valley. Hinton will be eligible right away for USU and will compete with the team during the spring.
“We are excited to add Izzie to our team,” DuBose said. “She brings a lot of experience to our roster and we are looking forward to having her help us in the Mountain West.”
Hinton played in 27 matches for the Wolverines last season, appearing in 86 sets with 23 starts. Hinton hit .201 (126-47-393) during the year with 126 kills, including a season-high 11 against Seattle, where she finished the match hitting .320 (11-3-25). In all, Hinton hit over .300 in seven matches during the 2017 campaign, including a season-high .538 (7-0-13) against Grand Canyon. Hinton finished fourth on the team with 73.0 blocks on the year, averaging 0.85 per set, and also totaled 71 digs, seven service aces and six assists.
During her freshman campaign, Hinton was named to the WAC all-freshman team after appearing in 29 matches with 28 starts and playing in a total of 95 sets. She finished fourth on the team with 149 kills, averaging 1.57 per set, while hitting .221 (149-49-452). Hinton added 57.0 blocks during the year and finished the 2016 campaign with 46 digs, five assists and two service aces.
Hinton also excelled in the classroom at Utah Valley, earning a pair of academic all-WAC citations.
Hinton, from Fort Worth, Texas, prepped at North Crowley High School, where she was a two-time first-team all-District 4 selection among 6A schools. Hinton played club with Texas Advantage Volleyball, the same club that produced current USU freshman middle Bailey Downing.
