SAN ANTONIO – For the first time since 1994, UTSA volleyball welcomes No.6 Texas to the Convocation Center for the Roadrunners home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

It is only be the third time in school history that the Runners host the Longhorns in the six-match all-time series between the teams. The squads last met in Texas’ 2016 edition of the American Campus Classic, when the Longhorns claimed a competitive three-set victory. In the match, UTSA forced the opening frame into extra points and kept the remaining sets within a few points at 25-23 and 25-21.

The Roadrunners (2-9) head into to Tuesday’s match following a second-place finish at the last weekend’s Jason’s Deli Baylor Classic in Waco. UTSA notched victories against St. John’s and I-35 rival Texas State, before falling to host and then-No. 28 Baylor in extra sets.

Sophomore Brianna McCulloch paces the Roadrunner squad with 3.63 kills per set (167). She’s followed by Preseason All-Conference USA Marijeta Runjic, who owns 3.04 kills per set (137).  Hammering out 43 kills this past weekend, Runjic was named to the all-tournament team.

As a team, the Roadrunners are delivering 11.72 kills per set, an effort that is aided by junior Amanda Gonzales’ 9.18 assists per frame (404).

Texas comes to the Alamo City following a sweep of Texas A&M last Wednesday. Freshman Lexi Sun leads the Longhorns with 3.53 kills per set and she also has posted 71 digs and 24 blocks. Meanwhile, Micaya White follows close behind at 3.00 winners per frame (87) and she is hitting at a .256 clip to go along with 27 blocks.
