To prepare for their upcoming seasons, two of Europe’s top professional sides, Paris Volley of French Ligue A and Berlin Recycling Volleys of Bundesliga A, competed in a weekend friendly at Max Schmeling Halle in Berlin.

After a common training session on Saturday that allowed both sides to experiment with various lineup combinations, the nine-time French champions narrowly defeated Berlin the following day in a five-set thriller.

Berlin head coach Luke Reynolds commented on Saturday’s common training session: “Obviously, Paris is good competition for us and we had lots of chances to play long rallies. People coming off the bench did a really good job and we’re just working toward being better every single time we step on the floor.”

Berlin started Robert Kromm, Adam White, Sebastian Kühner, Paul Carroll, Aleksandar Okolic, Georg Klein and Luke Perry, with Daan van Haarlem coming off the bench to contribute. Carroll led all Berlin scorers with 13 points and middle blocker Okolic added 10.

Next up for Berlin will be friendlies against two Polish sides: Espadon Szczecin in Berlin on Wednesday in Berlin followed by Onico Warsaw in Poznań, Poland over the weekend. Paris Volley opens its regular season on October 14 against Rennes Volley 35.
