Former Purdue star Valerie Nichol has found success in Poland. After starting her professional career with two seasons in Germany’s Bundesliga with Stuttgart, the 24-year-old 6’3″ setter is set to undergo her second season in the Polish league, a more competitive and demanding competition. The LKS Lodz player commented on her hopes for her upcoming season and meeting the team’s fans after her summer vacation:
“I missed volleyball a bit, but I trained all the time and played beach volleyball because I live in Florida. I was shocked to see so many fans watching our practices. They are really loud and bring a lot of energy to the training sessions. As for the training itself, I think it was very fruitful. I think that from now on it will be only better. I think there is some pressure in every challenge. I am a person who loves competition. I can not wait for a new adventure and I am glad that I am here. I have been in Łódź for only four days and for now it is really good. The girls from the team are great and try to talk to me in English. I am also trying to learn Polish, so you can call it a joint effort.”
Nichol was a two-time All-Northeast Region and All-Big Ten selection at Purdue, as well as a third-team AVCA All-American selection. She tallied four triple-doubles in her Boilermaker career, the most in program history.
