VM Men’s POTY Nicolas Szerszen Signs First Pro Contract with Asseco Resovia

The 2018 VolleyMob Men’s National Player of the Year, Nicolas Szerszen, has agreed to his first pro contract in Poland. Szerszen’s deal with the club, Asseco Resovia in Rzeszow, Poland, is for three seasons lasting until 2021.

Szerszen just finished up his final season with the Ohio State men’s volleyball program. In total for his four year career, he won a pair of National Championships (in 2016 and 2017), was an AVCA First-Team All-American his final three seasons and won the AVCA National Player of the Year in 2016 along with VolleyMob’s in 2018.

For his entire career with the Buckeyes, Szerszen recorded 1,678 kills (3.75 per set) on a .373 hitting percentage, 783 digs (1.75 per set), 238 aces (0.53 per set), 191 blocks (0.43 per set) and 101 assists (0.23 per set). This past season his per set numbers were: 3.76 kills (.388), 2.19 digs and 0.38 blocks on a team that won the MIVA, made the Volley Four and finished 25-6.

Originally from Hne, France, the 6’4″ outside hitter won’t be a stranger to the European volleyball scene. Prior to Ohio State he played with Lycee International and was a member of the French National Team pipeline that included appearances in the U-19 World Championship in 2013 and with the U-21 team in the spring of 2014.

Asseco Resovia Rzeszow is coming off of a 19-11 (57 points) season in the Polish top division, earning a fourth place regular season finish before being upended in the Quarter-finals of the PlusLiga. Their last trophies came in 2015 when they won the Polish Championship and earned second at the CEV Champions League.
