VolleyMob National Player Of The Week: Lewis’ Jacob Schmiegelt

After posting a perfect hitting match this week’s VolleyMob Player of the Week honor goes to #5 Lewis’ Jacob Schmiegelt.

In the team’s first match of the week against Lindenwood, Schmiegelt helped the team defensively with four blocks, three of which were solo. In the team’s three set sweep over Quincy, Schmiegelt posted a perfect hitting match, only the second player to do so this season (with at least 10 attempts).

Against Quincy, Schmiegelt posted 10 kills on 10 swings with no errors offensively. Also, he contributed three block assists and two aces.

So far this season, Schiegelt has slammed down 126 kills for a hitting percentage of .441. He has also played a significant role defensively for Lewis at the net, blocking a total of 79 balls for an average of 1.07 blocks per set.

In Schmiegelt’s career with Lewis he has earned MIVA Defensive Player of the Week four times with his outstanding blocking performances, with his career-best coming against Harvard in the 2014 season with 11 blocks. In 2016, he earned All-MIVA Second Team.
