Seven consecutive double-doubles? How about 18 total?
No sweat for Adora Anae, the junior outside hitter at No. 21 Utah (16-7, 7-5 Pac-12).
Anae has been a phenomenal contributor for the Utes this season, recording 18 double-doubles in 91 sets — 23 matches — this season. Last weekend, she had an outstanding 25 kills and 25 digs in a match against USC, which Utah won 3-1.
Her 25 digs is her best this season — though her 25 kills couldn’t top her 31 against BYU in September.
Even in Utah’s three-set loss to UCLA on Saturday, Anae came up big, adding 20 kills and 17 digs.
She’s in the top 10 in the nation among NCAA Division I players in kills per set (9th, 4.73), points per set (6th, 5.32), points (9th, 484.5), and total kills (9th, 430.0).
“You may be able to stop Adora, but you can’t stop her completely,” coach Beth Launiere told The Salt Lake Tribune in September. “When she gets set a lot at the end of a match, she’s going to get her kills.”
Up next for the Utes and Anae are home match-ups against California on Friday and Stanford on Saturday.
Collegiate competition is certainly demanding, but Anae has risen to the challenge and shined.
“I imagined it was tough. I mean, nothing is ever easy, but I’ve enjoyed challenging myself,” she told The Tribune. “I will never change playing for my family and my community, representing Kahuku” — her high school — “Hawaii, and my last name.”
