The Netherlands and Croatia will battle it out for their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2017 CEV European Women’s Championships in the playoff phase of the tournament.
The Dutch won two of the three pool play matches, losing only to Serbia who flew through the competition on their way to a 3-0 start. The Netherlands downed Belgium on day one and the Czech Republic on day three, both in four sets. Lonneke Sloetjes has been a strong presence for the Dutch, putting down 45 points so far in the competition. Anne Buijs comes in with 34 points and Celeste Plak with 33. The Dutch will need a front-runner to keep them alive in the tournament, with one of the three needing to dominate the floor.
Croatia has taken just one match so far, winning over Georgia on day two, but losing to both Belarus and Italy in Pool B. Katarina Barun Susnjar has carried the team, putting down 67 points in the opening round of the tournament. She is closely followed by Samanta Fabris who added another 64 points for the Croatian squad. A strong performance by both players will be needed to make their case against the Dutch.
