Both France and Japan are coming off three-set sweeps after the first day of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup. France was downed by Brazil while Japan by Team USA. This match will be the first time that the two teams will meet at the competition, as this is France’s debut season.
Japan is now the first team to lose eight straight matches at the Grand Champions Cup and have not won a set in their last five matches. Statistically, Japan’s output is low with Yuki Ishikawa being to top scorer with nine points on six kills, one block and two aces. Next was Masahiro Yanagida with five points.
France was downed by the defending Champions Brazil, in a rematch of the FIVB World League finals where France was the victor in five. France’s top scorer was Stephen Boyer, picking up where he left off in the World League with 11 points. Boyer was the overall preliminary scorer at the competition and come in the top-five in the finals. Julien Lyneel was also up there in scoring with 10 points.
The match will start at 18:15 local time, which is 6:15 AM U.S. East Coast Time or 09:15 GMT.
