Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia was eliminated from Superleague’s quarterfinals after their weekend 3-0 loss to CSKA Pirin. Sofia’s captain, Smilen Mlyakov, who last year captained CSKA’s squad, was the highlight of the game, as CSKA’s crowd targeted him throughout the whole match with insults. He was utterly devastated after the match (Sportal.bg):

“We need to do a better job. I have never been more embarrassed in my life. With the play we showed all season, we do not deserve to wear Levski’s jersey or our sponsor’s logo. I apologize very much for not being able to help the team as much as I really wanted. Levski is definitely a team for the first places. We have been very bad .This is no surprise to the fans. This was the true all along the season. We had some pretty week performances.”

A former prominent member of the Bulgarian national team in his  younger days, Myalkov once had his spike height measured at exactly 12 feet. Now at 36 years old, he had to fight a lot of injuries and pain in order to finish the season, but he did state after the game that he is ready to play next year if he is healthy and if Levski’s wishes to renovate his contract.
