Wichita State’s Emily Heibert Dubbed American Conference POW

Wichita State setter Emily Hiebert did a little bit of everything as the Shockers topped USF and UCF to move to 4-0 in American Athletic Conference action. The senior dished out 11.14 assists per set and guided the team to a .349 hitting percentage, while also accounting for 2.71 kills and 1.71 digs per set. In the sweep of USF, the Newton, Kansas, native posted a 35-assist, 11-kill double double, while hitting at a .667 clip in the match. The senior also chipped in seven digs and a block. In the 3-1 win over UCF, Hiebert accounted for 43 assists, eight kills, five digs and a block, while turning in a .538 hitting effort.

SMU middle blocker Meryn Kennedy brought home the league’s Defensive Player of the Week honors as SMU stayed perfect at 4-0 in AAC play. The redshirt freshman averaged 2.40 kills and 1.50 blocks per set, while also adding 11 digs. In a five-setter against East Carolina, Kennedy notched a career-high 20 kills, while hitting at a .382 clip and adding six digs and three blocks. In a five-set road win over Cincinnati, the Allen, Texas, native notched a team-best 12 blocks, ranking fourth all-time on the school’s match records list, while adding five digs and four kills.
