The Wisconsin women’s volleyball team has added Ethan Grefsrud to its staff as a volunteer assistant, as announced by head coach Kelly Sheffield on Twitter last week. Grefsrud’s primary job is as an assistant coach with NCAA Division II University of Minnesota Crookston, a position he was appointed to in April.
Crookston spent the last 2 seasons as a graduate assistant at Winona State University, which included them advancing to the 2nd round of the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship tournament – one of the best finishes in program history. During his tenure with the program, McKenna Larsen became the team’s first-ever AVCA All-American. His key responsibilities with the Warriors were coordinating travel plans, scouting, recruiting, game day operations, assisting the head coach and practice planning. In addition, he served as summer volleyball camp director at Winona State.
As a player, he was a club All-American at North Dakota State, where his team won a National Club Volleyball Federation (NCVF) national title in 2010 as a libero. He’s also worked at summer camps at North Dakota State, Winona State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
Wisconsin finished 3rd in the Big Ten last season with a 17-3 conference record and were 28-5 overall on the year. That included a run to the Elite 8 of the NCAA tournament where they lost to eventual NCAA Champions Stanford in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,012 at the Wisconsin Fieldhouse. The team has graduated its most visible player, VolleyMob First Team All-American setter Lauren Carlini, to graduation, as well as All-American middle blocker Haleigh Nelson and starter Romana Kriskova.
Crookston is about an 8 hour drive from Madison.
