#1 USC Beach Wins 39th-Straight With 4-1 Win Over #7 Arizona

HONOLULU – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (9-0) pushed its streak of victories to 39 straight and remained undefeated with a 4-1 win over No. 7 Arizona (5-4) on Queen’s Beach sand in the 2017 Outrigger Hawai’i Invitational on Saturday, March 18.

The Trojans got going with a win at court three where junior Terese Cannon and senior Nicolette Martin put together a 21-13, 21-15 win over Kendra Dahlke and Mia Mason. At the top court, seniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes finished moments later with a 21-14, 21-17 win over Madison and McKenna Witt. The win was the 101st for the senior duo and their 82nd in a row.

USC’s other senior pairing of Sophie Bukovec and Allie Wheeler put the dual win in the books on a 21-16, 21-11 result over Olivia Hallaran and Olivia Macdonald at court two. The Wildcats scored their only point at court four on a 21-17, 21-18 win by Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley. The Arizona duo defeated sophomore Abril Bustamante and freshman Joy Dennis.

With the dual decided, USC put up the final point on a win by juniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer at court five. The two Trojans defeated Halli Amaro and Brooke Burling, 21-15, 21-15.

Next up, USC will meet No. 4 Florida State for the second time in three days at11:45 a.m. HT (2:45 p.m. PT) and then concludes the tournament with a match against No. 5-ranked host Hawai’i at 4:45 p.m. HT (7:45 p.m. PT).
