100 Big Ten Volleyball Players Recognized As All-Big Ten Honorees

The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,014 students competing in fall sports who have been named to the Academic All-Conference team Wednesday.

The list of honorees features 101 field hockey players, 309 football players, 72 men’s and 153 women’s cross country runners, 93 men’s and 186 women’s soccer players and 100 volleyball players.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

At least 16 of the fall honorees have maintained unblemished cumulative GPAs:

Caroline Dreher, Indiana women’s soccer (So., Accounting and Finance)

Kaleigh Haus, Iowa women’s soccer (So., Biomedical Engineering)

Annika Olsen, Iowa women’s volleyball (Sr., Finance)

Cole Chewins, Michigan State football (So., Business)

Matthew Thomas, Michigan State men’s cross country (So., Business)

Emily Steffke, Michigan State women’s cross country (So., Neuroscience)

Kelcy Welch, Michigan State women’s cross country (Jr., Kinesiology)

Emily Betz, Minnesota women’s cross country (So., Undeclared)

Abby Kargol, Minnesota women’s cross country (So., Undeclared)

Nandi Mehta, Northwestern women’s soccer (Sr., Post Baccalaureate)

Kayla Morin, Northwestern women’s volleyball (Sr., Political Science)

Cara Ulizio, Penn State women’s cross country (Sr., Supply Chain Management)

Brian Shushkovsky, Rutgers men’s soccer (So., Finance)

Olin Hacker, Wisconsin men’s cross country (So., Undecided)

Natalie Jacobson, Wisconsin women’s soccer (So., Biology)

The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the winter and spring seasons and will present the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Students eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying students must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school. The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference Faculty Representatives as an addition to the conference’s Academic All-Big Ten program.
