BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the second time in four days, the #19 Purdue Boilermakers swept Indiana during Rivalry Week. It was Purdue’s 11th straight victory over their in-state rival and their 11th sweep of the season overall. Additionally, the Monon Spike, the trophy given to the winner of the rivalry, stays in West Lafayette for the 10th consecutive year.
Not much changed from the first match to the second. Purdue was led by Danielle Cuttino (14-1-28, .464) and Sherridan Atkinson (11-3-19, .421) offensively while senior setter Ashley Evans ran the Big-Ten-leading hitting percentage offense to a .366 clip with 34 assists. After one of the best performances in program history, middle blocker Blake Mohler hit .375 with 5 kills and 6 blocks. Libero Brooke Peters led all defenders with 12 digs. It was her 10th straight match of double-digit digs.
For the Hoosiers, not much changed. They were outhit (41-32 in kills, .366-.125), outblocked (8-1) and outdug (38-28). Offensively, do-everything outside hitter Kendall Beerman led the Hoosiers with 10 kills, 5 digs and 2 aces. The Hoosiers switched back to a 5-1 offense, run exclusively by Victoria Brisack delivering 27 assists.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 19 Purdue (13-2, 3-1 B1G) defeated Indiana (11-5, 0-4 B1G) in three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-19) to claim the Monon Spike for the 10th straight year and earn its second sweep of the Hoosiers in four days. The victory over IU is Purdue’s 11th consecutive victory over its instate rival and its 11th sweep of the season.
Danielle Cuttino and Sherridan Atkinson led the Boilermakers with double-digit kill efforts and hitting percentages north of .400 to fuel Purdue’s .366 hitting percentage on the night. Cuttino registered 14 kills on 28 swings with just one error to hit .464 while Atkinson tallied 11 kills with three errors on 19 attempts to earn a .421 hitting percentage. Azariah Stahl was just two kills shy of a double-double with 11 digs, two aces and a .250 hitting percentage. After one of the best offensive performances in program history against Indiana on Wednesday night, Blake Mohler hit .375 with five kills to go along with six blocks. Purdue out-blocked IU 8-1 in the contest.
Ashley Evans dished out 34 assists and also tallied three kills and an ace. Brooke Peters earned her 10th-consecutive match with 10 digs or more as she earned 12 on the night. The Boilermakers’ first-ball contact was steady throughout the contest as they sided out successfully 76 percent of the time, including a perfect 100 percent (12-12) in the second set. Purdue hit .276 and .290 in the first two sets but closed out the contest with 14 of its 41 kills in the third set with a .591 hitting percentage.
Purdue continues a four-match stretch of road contests with Illinois and Northwestern in the coming week. The Boilermakers face the Fighting Illini on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET prior to round two with the Wildcats on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. ET.

Bloomington, Ind. – Redshirt Sophomore Kendall Beerman tallied double-digit kills for the 10th time in 11 matches with 10, but the Indiana volleyball team fell at home against No. 19 Purdue in three sets (23-25, 13-25, 19-25) on Saturday at University Gym.
Sophomore Victoria Brisack tallied 27 assists, which included a career milestone as she passed 1,000 career assists and now has 1,017 assists for her career.
The Hoosiers played in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,724 inside University Gym.
The Hoosiers (11-5, 0-4) fell behind 15-11 in the first set, but used a 4-0 run, which included a kill by sophomore Ally Badowski and a block by sophomore Hayden Huybers, to tie the set, 15-15.
The opening set had 13 ties, but at 18-18 back-to-back kills by sophomore Deyshia Lofton put Indiana up 20-18. After an Indiana service error, Purdue (13-2, 3-1) scored two more points to take a 21-20 lead. The Boilermakers pushed that lead to 23-21, but Indiana responded a kill from Beerman and a Purdue attack error to knot it at 23-23. Purdue converted the final two points on a kill and an Indiana attack error to win the set, 25-23.
After struggling in the second set, the Hoosiers found their rhythm in set three as they hit .310 with 13 kills. Junior captain Elizabeth Asdell tallied five kills and hit .500 in the third set, but Purdue got out to a 13-6 lead.
The Hoosiers showed resiliency as they competed and battled back to close the gap to three at 15-12 and when Purdue went up 19-14 the Hoosiers again narrowed the deficit to three at 22-19. The Boilermakers scored the final three points of the set to win the match.
Up next Indiana will travel to Northwestern and Illinois for matches on Friday Oct. 6 and Saturday Oct. 7. The next home match is Wednesday Oct. 11 against Iowa.
