32 Team Field Announced For NIVC Tournament

This is the first time that there will be an after season tournament for the top teams that did not make the cut into the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The NIVC announced the 32 team bracket that will participate in the tournament that will begin on November 28 and conclude with the finals on December 12.

Originally, the NIVC gauged the interest of nearly 110 schools to participate in the tournament and narrowed it down to just 32.

The tournament used to be held from 1989 to 1995 with just 20 teams but has not commenced since then.

The 32 teams feature 17 programs with at least 18 wins on the season along with five programs that finished first in the regular season conference play – Albany, North Texas, Sacramento State, Stephen F. Austin and Maryland Eastern Shore. There are 23 conferences included in the tournament with the Big 12 and American Leagues having three teams competing. The Big Ten and Pac-12 have no teams competing in the competition.

Of the four teams that were deemed the first four out of the NCAA Tournament, North Texas was the only one invited to compete in the tournament – Iowa, Maryland and Dayton were left out of the mix.
