Thirty-seven Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were selected to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, headlined by Miami’s Olga Strantzali, the 2017 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced today by the league office.

Strantzali, a senior majoring in public relations from Thessaloniki, Greece, was also the 2017 ACC Volleyball Player of the Year. The three-time All-ACC Academic honoree is also minoring in marketing, and has made the Athletic Director honor roll, and the Dean’s List at Miami. Strantzali earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, was named the East Coast Region Player of the Year, led the ACC in kills per set, points per set, and ranked second in service aces per set.

In addition to Strantzali, 26 other All-ACC honorees made the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team.

The 2017 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team has 37 honorees, with 13 institutions represented. Louisville led the league with six selections, followed by five for Notre Dame. Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Pitt and Syracuse each had three honorees, while Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest had two, and Virginia had one.

Florida State’s Milica Kubura and NC State’s Kaitlyn Kearney received All-ACC Academic honors for the fourth time in their careers. Strantzali, Louisville’s Tess Clark and Syracuse’s Santita Ebangwese received their third All-ACC Academic nod, while 14 other student-athletes secured the honor for the second time in their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all-conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
