Canadian’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes top China’s Fan Wang/Yuan Yue to finish 3-0 in Pool G, advancing to the Round of 32 that will begin on August 2. The Canadian’s took just two sets to down the Chinese, using a strong block and tough serves in their route to victory.
Pavan dominated at the net on the block with five in the match, while also serving up two aces along with Humana-Paredes’ four aces.
The Canadian’s served all but two balls at Wang in the match, throwing the team off, as Wang is their stronger blocker. On the attack, Humana-Paredes was successful with a number of shots, mixing it up to trip up the Chinese crew. She was blocked twice by Wang trying to hit the ball hard to her left.
Wang hit the ball either extremely hard cross or attempted down the line on her attack, being successful at both but Pavan’s strong block was difficult to hit around.
The win brings the Canadian crew to a 3-0 start at the Vienna Beach World Championships and will secure their spot in the Round of 32 that will begin on August 2.
