The men’s Lucky Losers portion of the 2017 Vienna Beach World Championships has concluded, with four teams advancing to the Round of 32 in a do or die scenario.
Moving on are Latvian’s Martins Plavins and Haralds Regza as they took down Aaron Nusbaum/Ryan Vandenburg of Canada. In the first set, Plavins/Regza had no troubles defeating the Canadian side, dominating 21-11, while the second set was more difficult, they were able to hold on for the 21-18 win.
Poland’s Mariusz Prudel/Kacper Kujawiak advance with a win over Argentina’s Nicolas Capogrosso/Julian Azaad 2-0, (21-19, 21-17).
In an all-Austrian showdown, Robin Seidl and Tobias Winters fought to take down Thomas Kunert and Christoph Dressler in two sets. The first sets was a long match up, going past the normal ending point of 21, as Seidl/Winter took the first 25-23. In the second, the winning pair was able to put it away earlier but still fought until the end with a 22-20 win.
The final entry into the finals is Italy’s Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Carambula, as they fought through three sets to take down Germany’s Markus Bockermann and Lars Fluggen. The Italians dominated in the first set with a 21-10 win but faltered in the second, dropping the set 21-18 with the Germans forcing a deciding set. Ranghieri/Carambula ran away with the final st 15-8 to move on to the elimination rounds of the tournament.
